The Stuttgarter Fea Market in Karlsplatz describes itself as “The flea market with a heart”. For 25 years it has taken place each Saturday on this same spot and delighted young and old, locals and tourists alike with its colorful stalls offering all sorts of wares from the “good old days”.
The flea market takes place from 08:00 to 16:00 clock clock (except holidays) every Saturday in Karlsplatz, which is just off the HauptStr, right in the center of Stuttgart (nearest U-Bahn station: Charlottenplatz).
This vibrant flea market boasts a wide range of stalls and some very charismatic stall-holders. It sells everything you can imagine. From clothes, books, kitchen items, antiques… If you go early you can find real bargains. It’s worth getting up early just to enjoy the atmosphere, the colours, the smell of flowers and food stalls and numerous antiquities that you will discover in this Aladdin’s Cave.
The market has existed on this location each week for over 25 years and is one of the few flea markets in Germany can look back on such a long history.
As well as the weekly Saturday market, each Spring and Fall, there is a “big” Stuttgart market. Find stalls spread over 3,000 meters, all over the Stuttgart city center, and uncover a huge variety of goods offered and thousands of bargain hunters who are looking for something special.
But in this modern age of ebay auctions and online classified ads, what is the continued fascination of flea market? Quite simply the unique ambiance of a flea market makes it so special. It’s where people meet; where you can browse, talk, view and handle the goods before you buy. Haggling over the price with a vendor, learning the history behind an old piece, perhaps even competing with another customer to buy – these are all the unique experiences of a flea market that you cannot experience online and what makes it so thrilling to be a part of it.
