Spring Powder Skiing in Kitzbuhel

The last week in Kitzbuhel, Austria has delivered some excellent skiing and boarding with fresh snow followed by clear skies. Whilst the winter snow accumulation over the Alps this winter has been below the average, there have been several times when the skiing was seriously good. With 70cm of new snow arriving on the Hintertux Glacier and a similar amount in Kitzbuhel, those who got first bite at the fresh snow had some of the best conditions of the winter.

Despite its reputation, Kitzbuhel offers predominantly intermediate skiing and snowboarding – the Hahnenkamm Streif downhill course is mighty steep and challenging but the marked slopes are ideal for good intermediates. There are however significant off-piste options in Kitzbuhel, especially toward Pass Thurn in the south, with several bowls that catch some of the biggest regional snowfalls. Kitzbuhel is all about quality and the numerous mountain terraces entice many to soak up the views and afternoon sun. Off the slopes Kitzbuhel is as good as it gets – the resort centre has few if any equals and the apres ski can be as challenging as the FIS downhill course itself. Easy access from Bavaria adds to the huge appeal of this world class resort.
