If you’re planning to visit Normandy, France this summer, Bayeux is a wonderful city to stay in. Bayeux was the first town to be liberated after D-Day and is a small tourist friendly town with lots of shopping and restaurants.

On a trip this spring, my husband, dog and I stayed at Hôtel Reine Mathilde. The rooms provide the basic necessities in a very convenient location. I highly recommend this hotel as the place is charming and the people are friendly.

There are many restaurants in the area. And it should be noted that our hotel had an excellent restaurant with unpretentious French cuisine. But when we arrived starving at 2 in the afternoon, the real winner was the burgers at the newly opened bar and brasserie located at 50 Rue Saint-Jean. My husband proclaimed it the best in Europe by far. Although the restaurant doesn’t have much selection beyond beef, they do have delicious burgers.
