We recently asked Lisa Schlereth, a photographer, military spouse, and mother of four, a few questions about her recent trip to Garmisch:
How long was the drive?
The drive was a little over 3 hours from Grafenwoehr. You go through Munich and they have construction going at the moment, so it slows you down a little. We came through around 1100 on the way there and on the way back. We made it through without any major delays.
How should I dress this time of year?
It was around 25 degrees (F) while we were there. I wore a winter coat with gloves and stayed plenty warm while walking around. I would suggest snow pants, winter coat, gloves, boots, and a hat if you are planning on sledding or playing in the snow.
What was your favorite part during your quick trip?
I love to eat and try new foods. As a matter of fact, I’ve been known to plan weekend trips around foods that I want to eat! My favorite part of our little trip was eating lunch at the Boarisch & Wild Restaurant. We enjoyed some Bretzel Soup and German Meatloaf. Both were delicious! I can’t say enough about the wonderful service. Everyone there was so friendly.
What things would you recommend doing in Garmisch?
There is so much to do! We are already making plans for another trip up there in the near future. You can ski/snowboard, sled, go on castle tours, cave tours, and lots of shopping! We walked from Edelweiss down to the city center. It was about a 20 minute walk.
There are souvenir shops, bakeries, an antique store, candy stores, clothing stores and so much more along the way.
Lisa Schlereth is a proud military spouse and busy mother of four with a passion for photography, food, travel, and trying new things. As a photographer, currently running her own business here in Germany, she is going to let us join along on her adventures in Bavaria and beyond!
