Autumn Dippemess Festival

A trip to greet family from the Frankfurt Hbf last weekend turned into an afternoon of fest food, rides, and beer; an all too common occurrence for a fall afternoon in Germany.

When I realized that we were going to have to be in downtown Frankfurt around dinner time on a Sunday, I started looking for events in the area and found the Autumn Dippemess.  The festival runs from September 7 through 16, 2018 and takes place at the Ratsweg Fairground, directly adjacent to the “Eissporthalle” ice-sports arena.

As always, I spent most of the day eating my way around the festival and was thrilled to find my favorite guilty pleasures: langos, waffles, donut sticks, and schnitzel sandwiches with caramelized onions (basically 4 of the 5 food groups).

Beyond food, there are plenty of games and rides for kids and adults alike.

Opening Times:

Monday-Thursday: 2 p.m. – 11 p.m.

Friday and Saturday: 2 p.m. – 12 a.m.

Sunday: 12 p.m. – 11 p.m.

Parking and Transportation:

While there is a small parking lot at the Eissporthalle, the easiest way to get to the festival is via public transportation. We parked in one of the lots surrounding the Hauptbahnhof  and took the U-Bahn. Parking was €3/hr. and the U-Bahn ticket was €5/ea. for a day pass.  The underground U-Bahn line 7 stops steps away from the fairgrounds as does the above ground Tram 12.  Visit bahn.com for information on train travel.
